Before you leave site

Every check here costs five minutes now. Each one that gets skipped costs a return visit, and the return visit happens weeks later when nobody remembers what was installed where.

The hardware

• Every device is powered and reporting. Open Device → Sensor and Device → Gateway and confirm each one has been seen in the last few minutes. A device that has never reported has never worked — do not leave assuming it will start.
• Every gateway is online. One offline gateway explains an entire floor of missing data later.
• Nothing is loose. Ceiling mounts that are nearly tight come down.

The plan

• Everything you installed is on the floor plan, at the place it physically is. If a mount moved during the install, move it on the plan.
• The scale is set. The Image panel says so explicitly. Without it, every distance, area and density figure in this venue is meaningless.
• Walls are drawn, at least the structural ones.
• Zones exist for every space anyone will ask about, and each has a capacity if anyone will ever ask whether it is big enough.

The positioning

• You have walked the space and applied the solved gateway positions. Placing by eye is a starting point, not a finish.
• The Positioning method card says what you expect. A venue that resolved to presence when you installed three gateways is telling you something — usually that one of them is not online, or is not positioned.
• You watched your own dot move on the Live Monitor while walking. This is the single most valuable five minutes of any install, and the one most often skipped.

The numbers

Open Monitor → Right Now and read each zone the way a customer will:

• Does every zone you installed for report a count?
• Does the source badge say what you expect? A room where you fitted a radar and which reports tags means the radar is not reporting — find out now, on site, with a ladder still in the van.
• Does a visibly empty room report empty? If it reports two, look for glass between the radar and a corridor.

Leave a record

• Note the install date on the devices, so battery forecasting has a starting point.
• Label things, on the platform as well as physically — the Labels page takes free-form tags, and "installed phase 2" or "maintained by X" is the kind of thing nobody can reconstruct a year later.
• Tell whoever runs the building what was installed and what it can answer. Most disappointment with an install is a mismatch between what was fitted and what someone expected it to tell them, and it is cheapest to resolve while you are standing in the room.
